Dental Technology

Dentistry today is very different than it was years ago. Modern technology allows us to do our job with better precision and more speed. Advancements in dental technology also make dental treatments more efficient and effective, and they improve the patient experience. Whether they’re saving you time, keeping you comfortable, or giving you the smile of your dreams, our state-of-the-art dental technologies will completely change the way you think about going to the dentist.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays are a fast and comfortable way for us to assess your dental needs. They’re safe enough to be used during pregnancy, and some studies have found that they emit up to 90% less radiation than conventional X-rays. With no chemical processing needed, digital X-rays are a good choice for your smile and the environment, too.
X-rays are commonly used in dental exams, because many problems with the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen by the naked eye. An X-ray is needed to reveal:

Laser Periodontal Surgery

Laser Periodontal Surgery

The doctors at Metairie Dental Centre always want your procedures to be the least invasive and the most effective. That is why they were the first dental practice in the New Orleans area to offer Millennium PerioLase®. Millennium PerioLase is used to treat the effects of gum disease. This procedure requires no scalpel and no suturing. There is usually less discomfort and the recovery time is often shorter than with traditional periodontal surgery. Some of the benefits of Millennium PerioLase include:
  • Usually less discomfort than standard surgery
  • Often less procedure time than traditional surgery
  • No scalpel and no sutures
  • Less than 24-hour recovery period
Rotary-Assisted Root Canals

Rotary-Assisted Root Canals

Rotary-assisted root canals allow our dentists to achieve the same success with rotary files in much less time than traditional filing systems and often with much less postoperative discomfort. Some of the benefits of rotary-assisted root canals include:
  • Thorough cleaning and shaping
  • Less time in the dental chair
  • Usually done in one visit
Intraoral Camera

Intraoral Camera

Like digital X-rays, digital photographs with our intraoral camera are a useful diagnostic and patient education tool. This camera shows you on a TV or computer monitor what our dentists see during your exam.
This diagnostic tool allows the dentists to:
  • Guide you through your diagnosis and treatment options
  • Visualize and diagnose issues they might not have seen without the up-close view
